For once, not Fanny Smith, but Ryan Regez secures the best Swiss result at the Ski Cross World Cup.
Ryan Regez provided the highlight from a Swiss point of view at the Ski Cross World Cup in Val Thorens, France. The Bernese Oberland qualified for the grand final and barely had to admit defeat to Canada’s Reece Howden. The third place went to the French François Place.
For Regez it is the eighth podium of his career (3 wins). The 27-year-old finished second in race two at Arosa five days ago.
4 to 1 in the quarterfinals
The fact that Regez was able to compete for the victory of the day was thanks to a hussar walk in the quarterfinals. There, Wengener found themselves in fourth place, before even taking the lead with uncompromising momentum.
Out of a total of 6 Swiss in the round of 16, Alex Fiva and Jonas Lenherr had qualified for the quarter-finals in addition to Regez. There, however, Fiva crashed and Lenherr was eliminated in third place in his series.
Disappointment for Fanny Smith
Only in the small final was the big favorite Fanny Smith among the women. After Romande dominated the standings and won his quarter-final series with confidence, they were initially ahead in the semi-finals as well.
But then Smith missed the sweet spot on a right turn, was pushed out by her competitors and missed the goal. Smith, the winner of the last two races, won the small final and was fifth overall. Talina Gantenbein finished eighth. The victory of the day was for the Austrian Katrin Ofner.
