No visits to the Cantonal Hospital of Lucerne and the Hirslanden Klinik St. Anna
The Lucerne Cantonal Hospital (LUKS) and the St. Anna Clinic issue a general prohibition of visits on the recommendation of the cantonal management staff. This applies as of Tuesday, December 22, 2020. However, there are exception rules.
Cantonal Management Staff (KFS) recommend a ban on visiting Lucerne hospitals. Based on this recommendation and in consultation with the other Lucerne hospitals, the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital (LUKS) will issue a blanket visit ban on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, as announced by the LUKS on Monday. The visiting ban also applies to the Hirslanden Klinik St. Anna.
The measure makes an important contribution to the greatest possible reduction in footfall, minimizes the risk of infection for employees and patients, and alleviates heavily stressed hospital operations, LUKS and Hirslanden Klinik St. Anna announced Monday.
Exceptional rules for special patient situations
The visitation ban applies until further notice. However, it was added with exceptions for special patient situations, it continues. The following visits are still allowed:
- Children’s hospital: parents and siblings,
- Partners of women who give birth around childbirth and in the puerperium,
- Close relatives of people who are dying or who need support,
- an outpatient escort, if medically necessary.
LUKS pandemic staff are aware that a blanket ban on visitors during the holiday season is particularly drastic. In the currently very tense situation, LUKS explains the decision to secure and alleviate hospital operations.
Currently, healthcare can only be managed thanks to significant restrictions on normal functioning. According to LUKS, the ban on visits is one of the measures to counteract the overload of the health system.
Tests also during the holidays
LUKS has been running a large number of corona tests every day for months. The tests are also offered every day during the holidays. To ease busy operations, the frequency will be slightly reduced until January 3, 2021 inclusive. In addition, until then the desired tests for asymptomatic people will not be performed. Patients who wish to book an appointment for the test of their choice via www.luks.ch will be referred to alternative testing centers.
If necessary, go to the hospital.
Even in the current situation, no one should hesitate to go immediately to the hospital in the event of a medical emergency, report the LUKS and the Hirslanden Klinik St. Anna. The reluctance to relieve the hospital staff is misplaced. Often waiting made symptoms worse, which could have serious health consequences.
In addition, thanks to the separation of COVID patients from the rest of the hospital operations and the strict implementation and professional application of hygiene regulations, clinics are safe places. People with acute illnesses and patients in need of treatment can go to the hospital at any time without hesitation.
