Downhill winner on Friday and runner-up on Saturday, second place in Super-G on Sunday: the three days of racing at Val d’Isère are a complete success for Corinne Suter de Schwyz.
Second, Swiss speed leader Corinne Suter only had to admit defeat to Ester Ledecka by three hundredths on Sunday. The 25-year-old Czech, a sensational Olympic champion in the Super-G in Pyeongchang in 2018, only won the World Cup for the second time after the descent she won at Lake Louise in December 2019.
The third Super G was Federica Brignone (0.35 seconds behind). The outright World Cup winner from Italy had skipped the second drop after her fall on Friday. Lara Gut-Behrami was fifth behind the second Italian Marta Bassino. Ticino lost 0.78 seconds over Ledecka. Michelle Gisin was ninth, like the day before, Priska Nufer 15.
It was a disappointment for Sofia Goggia. The Italian, like Corinne Suter, a first and second time in the previous days, qualified in 7th position. It was even worse for Austria’s strong women’s sprint team. Their best driver, Tamara Tippler, was only 13th, 1.36 seconds behind.
The next races of the Women’s World Cup will follow on December 28 and 29, when a giant slalom and slalom will take place in Semmering. The next speed weekend will take place on 9/10. January in St. Anton, also in Austria.
