What a Sunday! Lausanne, Servette and Sion win

Vaduz, the last of the Super League, is gradually becoming lonely. In the direct duel, the penultimate FC Sion, now five points ahead of the Liechtensteiners, also broke loose.

Lausanne 2-1 Lucerne

“It can’t be that you only have one good referee in Switzerland! It pissed me off, it’s a joke, ”Lucerne goalkeeper Marius Müller said at SRF. The German was beside himself, because the compensation for Lausanne should not have fallen from the point of view of Lucerne. Evann Guessand scored for the Vaudois from a corner that was falsely whistled, as the television images clearly demonstrated. According to the regulations, corner kick decisions cannot be corrected by the VAR, so the legality of the hit is not questioned.

Frustration in Fabio Celestini’s team was even greater when Rafik Zekhnini from Norway even scored the decisive 2-1 five minutes later.

Lucerne took the lead in the 35th minute and a missed kick-off by Lausanne goalkeeper Mory Diaw through Pascal Schürpf, but subsequently missed other favorable opportunities. Louis Schaub missed his best chance in the 65th minute when he missed alone in front of goal from Diaw’s strong reaction.

FCL goalkeeper Müller not only criticized the referees. He also said: “We have to attribute it to ourselves. We defended the corner that resulted from that shit. “Also, as in the previous weeks, they would not have known how to properly take advantage of their opportunities.

Zion – Vaduz 2: 1

A match that resulted in a safe 0-0 for a long time brought three goals quite spread over the last 20 minutes. Sion defeated Vaduz 2-1 because they were the least weak team.

Vaduz’s team scored the wonderful 1-1 with Gabriel Lüchinger in the 76th minute. The goal, as beautiful as it was, came out of nowhere, but at least coach Mario Frick’s team ended a goalless period that had lasted 464 minutes. More was not possible for the Liechtensteiners. Because they played only slightly better against the second in line in the Super League than they had in their last four losses.

Despite the victory, the Sion team failed to capitalize on their convincing performance in the last 1-1 draw in Geneva against Servette. It was enough for all three points, thanks to which they reduced the gap to eighth-ranked Lucerna to two points.

Despite the superiority, Valais struggled to develop good opportunities. Perhaps tellingly, two players who had never met in the FC Sion tenu met: Christian Zock and Ayoub Abdellaoui. The Algerian defender scored 2: 1 in the 90th minute with a seemingly lasting long-range shot.

Similar to the 1: 2 loss in Geneva, FC Zurich lost their rematch to Servette in the closing minutes. Timothé Cognat shot Servettes 1-0 in the 86th minute.

Most of the time, the danger posed by the people of Zurich was limited to the actions of Aiyegun Tosin. The young Nigerian had one of the best scoring chances of the game along with the goal. Shortly before the break he played with Servette’s goalkeeper, Jérémy Frick. He could have pushed right away, but he ruined the ball and didn’t hit it properly from an acute angle.

The positive thing about coach Massimo Rizzo’s Zurich is the defensive performance, to which Becir Omeragic, who returned from quarantine, also knew how to contribute in central defense. However, the FCZ could not keep the “zero”. The Servettiens launched many more attacks than the Zurichers, but were almost never able to fight their way through danger. So a 0-0 would have been the logical outcome of this unattractive game.

Servette’s coach, Alain Geiger, will be happy that winter break is approaching, as the list of important absences grows longer. In Zurich he could not count on the key player Miroslav Stevanovic or the injured Alex Schalk (double scorer in the victory against YB), Kastriot Imeri or Koro Koné. Geiger also gave overworked central defender Steve Rouiller a break.

“The situation is out of control”: mutated virus threatens Europe

The new variant of the coronavirus is spreading rapidly in Britain. Several countries have cut off all connections to the island.

Frustration instead of festivities: As of Saturday, many Britons were still happy with the relief from the lockdown that the British government promised them during the holiday season. But now Prime Minister Boris Johnson is massively tightening the crown screws and has a hard lock on much of southern England (including London). Meetings with people from other households are prohibited with very few exceptions.
