Putin responded to Nawalny’s accusations that a “assassination squad” of the FSB’s national intelligence service was supposed to poison him. Russia’s most prominent government critic had blamed Putin for the assassination.
The opponent had accused several alleged FSB agents by name and photo in a video of attacking him in August with a neurotoxin from the Novitschok group. The chemical warfare agent is banned internationally.
This is material from the US intelligence services, said former FSB chief Putin. He claimed that US intelligence helped Navalny make the accusations against the Russian agents. However, the Kremlin’s opponent had stated that the telephone connection data and the travel lists of the FSB employees came from files that could be bought on the Russian black market.
Putin now said that if Navalny had access to those data sets, it would be interesting. So, of course, the secret services have to keep an eye on him. But that doesn’t at all mean you have to poison him, ”he said.
Navalny collapsed on a domestic flight over Russia in August. After an emergency landing in the Siberian city of Omsk, he was transferred to the Charité in Berlin at the urging of his family. The 44-year-old wants to return to Russia after a rehabilitation measure in Germany.
Putin also said, referring to recent reports on his private life and family, that these were targeted actions by the US intelligence services. “You can’t read that,” he said.
