Peyer and Caduff: “We look to the future with confidence”

The government has extended the measures that were planned for four days until next Friday. Why?

Marcus Caduff: The number of cases has fallen since last Friday and the indicators are pointing in the right direction. If we had relaxed the measures as planned from Saturday, the restaurants would only have been open until 7pm due to Swiss regulations. We wonder if we could not improve the situation even more so that from December 23 it would be possible to open until 23:00.

The number of cases is increasing in Switzerland. How optimistic are you that the number of cases in Graubünden will decrease in the coming days?

I think we can take advantage of the experience of western Switzerland and the canton of Valais: there, the number of cases could be significantly reduced within 20 days after the adoption of stricter measures. I am optimistic that with the extension of the measures we will be able to bring the number of cases below the Swiss average and therefore grant permission to restaurants to remain open until 11 pm

How did the restaurant industry in Graubünden react to this extension of measures?

Enthusiasm is understandably limited. But the tenor is: “Yes, it is worth a try.” Knowing, of course, that there is no guarantee that the goal will be achieved on December 22.

How did the restaurants in the ski areas react?

They indicated that they could support this decision, albeit with little enthusiasm. The question of compensation came up, I think legitimately.

Can the ski areas remain open after December 22?

Starting today, we could issue the permits. However, we have to reassess the situation day by day. As soon as it turns out that the situation worsens, we have to talk to those affected and find a solution.

What does the canton of Graubünden have to say about the new three-tier system proposed by the federal government and handed over to the cantons for evaluation?

We believe that the federal government should not rush anything now. It is known that it takes about three weeks for the new measures to take effect. And the federal government didn’t decide on the latest measures until December 11. Now you must have the courage to let the new measures take effect and see if they are going in the right direction.
