After the mail affair with the Zug police: the squad cop has to go

After the December 2019 email subject, a member of Zug’s cadre leaves the police force, by mutual consent, as announced by the security department on Wednesday. It could not be clarified who posted the mail traffic. The corresponding criminal proceedings have been suspended.

The Security Directorate notes that the parties have agreed not to reveal the details of the termination of the employment relationship. No further information will be given.

The Zug police released the cadre member and an employee in December 2019 and launched an investigation. The reason was that the intimate and private correspondence by mail of and between the two employees had been made public.

The criminal proceedings that have now been opened have been suspended, the Zug tax authorities announced on Wednesday. The focus of the investigation was the question of whether the employee actually sent the email and therefore committed a breach of official secrecy. Or if a third party was responsible for the family member.

No evidence could be found that the employee sent the email, he said. Investigations into a third party as the sender also would not have been successful.

Correspondence published on 20 December on behalf of a member of the Zug police force contained confidential data from the Zug police force daily, which is subject to official secrecy.

As a result, the Zug Canton Public Prosecutor launched a criminal investigation and the Zurich Canton Police were charged with investigating the matter. (aeg / sda)
