Coronavirus: Zurich health director calls for action on Friday

In a conversation with the “Tages-Anzeiger”, Zurich Health Director Natalie Rickli welcomed the clear call from hospitals to politicians to take immediate action to contain the pandemic as intensive care units they are full and the health staff is exhausted.

According to the Zurich health director, the current situation is no longer reasonable for Swiss hospitals and health workers. The Federal Council had to adopt clear and drastic measures for all of Switzerland on Friday.

A full blocking is not mandatory, but industries such as gastronomy, culture, leisure and entertainment should be closed. The Federal Council couldn’t wait until after Christmas to make a decision.

The health director showed understanding for business representatives who care about work and livelihoods. But you have to act now. “We do not have more time”Rickli warns in the newspaper interview. The healthcare system must not be overloaded. This is the red line that must not be crossed. (sda)
