London is tightening the screw. Due to the massive increase in the number of cases, the strict rules of the maximum alert level three will be applied in the capital of Great Britain from Wednesday: restaurants and pubs, cinemas and theaters have to close again.
There are also strict contact restrictions: you are no longer allowed to meet indoors, fans are prohibited from entering stadiums, travel should be avoided. Mayor Sadiq Khan (50) warned of “catastrophic consequences” for the economy.
The mutation spreads rapidly
Health Minister Matt Hancock (42) suspects that a new variant of the virus could be responsible for the high number of cases. Reported to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Around 1,000 cases of this mutation have been diagnosed in southern England, which has yet to be named. According to Hancock, this is spreading faster than the previous variant of Covid-19.
However, according to the Minister of Health, nothing suggests that the version could be more dangerous. And there is another positive news: the vaccine should also act against the mutation.
Before the third wave
Britain is facing a third wave of infections. After the kingdom was brought into a partial national lockdown from November 4 to December 2, the numbers are rising again. Every day an average of 18,000 new cases and 450 deaths are registered. So far, around 65,000 people have died from Corona.
This is not the first time a mutation has appeared. According to experts, “20A.EU1” was already responsible for most of the new infections in Europe during the summer. It may have reached the rest of Europe as a result of the wave of summer travel. (gf)
