The Christmas season is the peak season for Swiss Post every year – never before have so many packages been shipped. In Corona 2020, even more people are ordering their Christmas gifts online.
The frequencies are correspondingly high: More than a million packages have been sent every day since Black Friday. Even then a record was broken. 20 percent more packages are shipped than a year ago, SRF reports. The cartels currently work 50 hours a week.
Post doesn’t want a lock before Christmas
A lock would lead to an overload: Swiss Post is therefore in favor of waiting until after Christmas with a possible lock. “Normally, we expect parcel volumes to decline after Christmas and our employees can take a deep breath,” said Post media spokeswoman Léa Wertheimer. “This is important. We therefore ask the decision-makers of the Confederation and the cantons to take this into account when making their decisions.”
Employees are on the attack, as it is also called in the Syndicom union. The number of packages has remained at an unusually high level since March.
The union welcomes anything that relieves employees. It also calls on the Swiss Post to take long-term measures. More measures are needed. We are demanding more permanent staff to meet the challenges, ”said media spokesman Matthias Loosli. “And shorter delivery runs are needed to relieve couriers,” SRF was quoted as saying. The union also wants extraordinary performance this year to be rewarded with a pay increase.
