So who should be awarded prizes when a sports year is like this, the crown pandemic determines the calendar? SRF’s Plan B was called: Honoring the Most Successful in the 70’s, since the awards ceremony began. As difficult as the task seemed, the choice came as no surprise: Vreni Schneider, the ski star of the 1980s and 1990s with three Olympic victories, world championship titles and overall world cup victories, outshined them all, of course, like Roger Federer, the Swiss athlete of the century that followed. 20 Grand Slam titles have not played a game for almost a year and, as usual, he eloquently told about his knee injury at the gala performance without an audience.

In the other categories, two legendary dinosaurs in their field were honored with Jean-Pierre Egger (best coach) and Heinz Frei (best Paralympic athlete). Egger led Werner Günthör to success, but he also supported Simon Ammann and Matthias Sempach. Frei, for his part, has won 15 Olympic medals since 1984 and also wants to start in Tokyo. The team of the last decades was the national ice hockey team (Silver World Cup 2018), the best sports talent Dominic Stricker, who won the French Open in juniors.
