No one was injured in the rockfall shortly after 12:30 pm in the Miltenwald area, as announced by the Glarus canton police. The last time there was such a large rockfall at Bilten was a good 25 years ago.
The rock had made its way through the forest at a distance of about five hundred meters until it stopped in the meadow, Raphael Moor, Glarus cantonal police guard chief, said when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency.
60 cubic meters of rock
By an estimate from afar, an estimated 50 to 60 cubic meters of rock had been dislodged from the wall, Moor said. The cause of the termination is unknown. Assume a natural event.
According to the cantonal forest and natural hazards office, there is currently no threat to the population, the message said. An inspection for further risk analysis is planned in the coming days. (SDA / bra)
