(pd / lim) The number of new Covid-19 infections and the number of hospitalizations have increased again in the canton of St. Gallen in recent days. Therefore, the goal of continuously stabilizing and reducing the number of cases pursued by the government with the measures taken so far could not be achieved, according to a press release from the canton. AND:

“This increase places a great burden on healthcare workers and healthcare facilities.”

Due to this tense situation, the government last Wednesday presented a package of measures that should provide relief. The package has now been coordinated with measures announced by the federal government on Friday, and the government has approved the corresponding ordinance. The measures envisaged by the government in the areas of public access facilities and businesses, as well as events, will be superseded by the measures adopted by the Federal Council.

What applies from Sunday in the canton of San Galo.

In addition to the existing measures decided by the federal government and the canton, the following new cantons will apply as of Sunday:

  • Visits to nursing homes and nursing homes should take place in a publicly accessible space, such as the cafeteria or lobby. Management can make exceptions under certain conditions.
  • Employers must ensure that employees fulfill their work obligations as far away from their home (home office) as possible.
  • Anyone who tests positive for a coronavirus infection will immediately notify anyone with whom they have been in close contact in the last 48 hours prior to testing or before the first symptoms appeared. The notified person is immediately quarantined for ten days.
  • Gatherings of more than ten people in public spaces, that is, in public places, on walking paths and in parks, are prohibited.
  • Actions in public spaces that can generate crowds are prohibited.

The measures that have been taken now will remain in force until “a sustained decrease in the number of cases is evident.” If the number of cases does not stabilize in the coming days, further restrictions will be inevitable, the message continues. “The government strives to ensure that those measures are taken that can also be implemented over a longer period of time.” This is aimed at reducing the risk of a rapid increase in the number of cases in case of relaxation.

The government welcomes the increase in the compassionate use program announced by the federal government. The canton of St. Gallen will use the margin this creates to support polluted industries. The government is expected to lay the legal and organizational foundations for the speedy processing of requests for financial compensation in the coming week.
