Die Top 3
- Mauro Caviezel (SUI) 1: 01.34
- Adrian Smiseth Sejersted (NOR) +0.10
- Christian Walder (AUT) +0.54
In June the Achilles tendon ruptured and, 6 months later, Mauro Caviezel achieved victory in the Super-G in Val d’Isère. For the Graubünden man it was the first World Cup victory and most of all the final confirmation of his Super G ball from last season, when he often narrowly missed the victory.
Starting number 6, Caviezel attacked the race aggressively from the start, consistently found the ideal line and was faster than Austrian leader Vincent Kriechmayr at every interval. In the end it was the new best clear time with a margin of 77 hundredths.
All the following drivers bit their teeth on this one. Next up was Norwegian Adrian Smiseth Sejersted, who started the race directly after Caviezel and finished 10-hundredths behind.
Feuz and Odermatt in the top 15
Beat Feuz started the new season of speed with a tenth place. In the second split he was half a second behind. The gap even increased to 0.91 seconds before the finish line. World Cup leader Marco Odermatt, who won the giant slalom at Santa Caterina on Monday, entered the race with number 1. However, he was unable to benefit from the good conditions and finished in 13th place.
The other swiss

- 41. Loïc Meillard + 2.33
Paris is back
The scare in the Italian team was great when Dominik Paris was injured in training in early January and missed the rest of the season with a torn cruciate ligament. Now South Tyrol made their impressive comeback in Val d’Isère with a 16th place finish.
Super-G short but difficult
With 29 goals and a running time of just under a minute, the drivers were presented with a rather short Super-G. Persistent snowfall and poor visibility made finding the ideal line difficult. And if this was not found, the drivers found themselves in soft snow conditions, causing a waste of time.
So it goes
Speed controllers don’t have much recovery time after Super-G. The first descent of the season is scheduled in Val d’Isère on Sunday. It will be there live on SRF Zwei and on the SRF Sport app from 10:25 am
