Italian soccer legend Paolo Rossi died of an “incurable disease” at the age of 64. The national news agency reported ANSA Y La Gazzetta dello Sport citing posts from his wife Federica Cappelletti on social media. Besides his wife, Rossi leaves behind three children.

As Spain’s top scorer in 1982, Rossi made a significant contribution to Italy’s world title. He scored 6 goals in the last 3 games, in the final against Germany (3: 1) he scored 1: 0.

But that almost never happened. Rossi has been suspended for 3 years for his involvement in a gambling scandal. Just because the sentence was reduced by one year, the attacker could be nominated for the 1982 World Cup by national coach Enzo Bearzot. In the same year he received the Ballon d’Or, which at that time went to the best footballer in Europe.
