Italy’s soccer World Cup hero Paolo Rossi has died, Italian media reported Thursday morning. The 64-year-old man is said to have died of an incurable disease. His wife Federica Cappelletti confirmed the sad news on Instagram.

Rossi played a key role in Italy’s title with six goals at the 1982 World Cup in Spain. The top scorer at the time scored 1-0 in the final against Germany. The «Gazzetta dello Sport» wrote «of an area striker who lived for the goal».

With Rossi, the world of football is losing another great player. Argentine Diego Armando Maradona died at the end of November at the age of 60.
