Basel beat Sion spectacularly – St. Gallen trembles to win against Zurich
The vigor of FC Zurich after the change of manager was halted with a defeat at home. The Zurich team lost 1: 2 at home to FC St. Gallen. FC Basel won again at St.-Jakob-Park, this time in a mutually offensive 4-2 match against Sion.
Zurich – St. Gallen 1: 2
FC St. Gallen has finished the five-game series without a win. In a spectacular match in Letzigrund, eastern Switzerland, recently weakened by the coronavirus, they beat FC Zurich 2-1.
The game in Letzigrund could also have ended 3: 3, 3: 4 or 4: 4. The two teams had a spectacular exchange of blows in the snow, with a better finish for the St. Gallen team, who achieved their first victory. in two good months.
The live ticker to read:
The man of the game for the guests was French striker Thody Elie Youan, on loan from FC Nantes, who scored both St. Gallen goals and hit the bottom edge of the crossbar once. In the final phase, the home team was close to 2-2 on several occasions, FCZ’s best equalizing chances were missed by Toni Domgjoni (59th) and Benjamin Kololli (75th). Two alleged goals by the Zurich team were reversed for offside.
Before the game, little had been said for Peter Zeidler’s team. After November 22 and the 2-2 draw against Lausanne-Sport, St. Gallen was hit by the coronavirus pandemic: isolation, quarantine and reduced training, but no games. Now the FCSG reported and got the win thanks to a solid first half.
For the FCZ, the defeat put an end to the great escape started under Massimo Rizzo. The last four games resulted in just one win after winning the first three games with Rizzo as coach on the bench. In the table, the FCZ had to pass up Basel and St. Gallen.

Basel – Zion 4: 2
For long periods of the game, Sion at St. Jakob Park is a touchstone for FC Basel. But Basler exploits his chances quite consistently and wins 4: 2. With renewed victory after 1-0 win over Servette, coach Ciriaco Sforza’s team has a (slightly) positive record for the first time since 4th round. Five wins face four losses.
From the point of view of FC Basel, for whom Timm Klose, Pajtim Kasami, Arthur Cabral and again Kasami scored in turn, it was the successful comeback of Luca Zuffi, who suffered a cruciate ligament tear in mid-February. Zuffi played in his traditional position as second six alongside Fabian Frei. It was reserved for Zuffi to hit the corner, which Klose turned into an early lead with a header.
Arthur Cabral scored the afternoon goal spitting a Silvan Widmer pass into goal with his heel just off the post. It was 3-1 in the first half.
With one exception, FC Sion made a better impression in their third consecutive away game than in the defeats in Vaduz (1: 4) and Lucerne (0: 2). In terms of the number of attacks and opportunities, they were almost equal to the Baslers. But the defense was too fragile, especially with foot balls. The first two goals conceded fell to Corner. Valais should have scored more than two goals. After 89 minutes, substitute and free-kick Gaëtan Karlen missed with a free-kick penalty to Heinz Lindner. The penalty was repeated because Lindner had advanced to the finish line. Anto Grgic hit the second try well beyond the door. After all, Grgic had used a foul penalty (for a temporary 1: 1) in the first half.
Sions coach Fabio Grosso will need points before winter break, as well as other enjoyable performances like in Basel, if the president wants to stay in a good mood.

The winner of the match for Geneva on difficult-to-play terrain at Vaduz’s Rheinpark was Miroslav Stevanovic. In the 27th minute, the Bosnian scored 1-0 with a good pass, shortly after the break set up Grejohn Kyei’s 2-0 with a skillful cross pass.
The victory of the guests was deserved, Vaduz hardly had scoring opportunities. Manuel Sutter missed the best in the 22nd minute when Servette defender Steve Rouiller blocked the forward’s shot down the line.
Geneva, who had been one of the surprises of last season as a climber, continued her upward trend. Alain Geiger’s team had slipped to the bottom of the table after just one win in seven games.
