- In the Rosental retirement center, 51 of 105 residents tested positive for the corona virus.
- A resident died Tuesday.
- 17 employees are also infected with the virus.
After four people showed symptoms at the retirement center, all residents and employees were evaluated. The result: half of the residents were infected with the virus. However, 45 people showed almost no symptoms. “Meanwhile, six people are showing severe symptoms,” says Markus Wittwer, Head of Age and Care. Three residents are in the hospital. A woman died Tuesday.
The entire retreat center is currently under quarantine and no visits are allowed. This is a challenge for residents: “They are isolated in their rooms and that is a huge burden.” The home has hired additional staff to support the residents.
Residents are isolated in their rooms and that is extremely stressful for them.
“We can’t say for sure how the virus got into the house,” says Markus Wittwer. Many of the residents are still very mobile and in close contact with each other. “Therefore, we assume that the virus has spread among residents at a rapid rate.”
Wittwer emphasizes that the senior center strictly adheres to all protection requirements of the authorities. “But apparently, despite protective measures, there is a risk of infection.”
The old age center wants adjustment
Wittwer points out that a senior center is a reflection of social development: “If the number of cases in society is high, the risk in senior centers also increases massively.” That is why the head of the Department of Aging and Care wants stricter measures. This also affects the senior center. “During the blocking of the first wave of Covid, we felt a great relief in the company.”
On Thursday, all residents who tested negative on the first result will be tested again. If more corona cases emerge, the quarantine time will be extended further. Wittwer hopes this will last until Christmas. As soon as the quarantine is lifted, visits with protective measures will be allowed again.
