Unemployment in Switzerland increased slightly in November. The unemployment rate rose from 3.2 to 3.3 percent in October.
The Secretary of State for the Economy (Seco) announced this Tuesday. Adjusted for seasonal factors, the rate remained at 3.4 percent.
Thus, the consequences of the crown crisis on the Swiss labor market remain limited. The current rate is at the lower end of expectations.
A total of 153,270 people in Switzerland were registered as unemployed with the regional employment centers (RAV) in November. That was 4,152 more than in the previous month.
Compared to the same month last year, the number was vastly higher, namely at 46,940 people. The unemployment rate at that time, that is, in the pre-Crown period, was still 2.3 percent.
Disaggregated by age, the rate for young people between 15 and 24 years of age remained at 3.3 percent; it increased slightly among people aged 25 to 49 years (3.5 percent) and between 50 and 64 years (3.1 percent). It also increased among foreigners (from 5.5 percent to 5.8 percent), while it remained at 2.4 percent for Swiss.
Meanwhile, Seco registered a total of 251,139 job seekers in November, 9,679 more than in the previous month. On the other hand, the number of vacancies reported to the RAV decreased by 1,810 to 28,861. Of these, a good half were subject to the reporting requirement.
As usual, information on part-time work was also provided. However, officially, the September values are only available. At that time, according to the information, 204,191 people were affected by part-time work after a good 300,000 in August. At the height of the crown crisis in April it was a good million.
