The Swiss goalkeeper and the Sounders have reached the final of the Major League Soccer playoffs for the fourth time in the last 5 years.
Stefan Frei and the Seattle Sounders won 3-2 in the semifinals against Minnesota United after a spectacular run to catch up. For a long time, however, it seemed that the defending champion would have to admit defeat once again after 14 victorious home games in a row in the home playoffs.
Decision in added time
The Washington state team trailed 2-0 until fifteen minutes before Will Bruin, Raul Ruidiaz and Gustav Svensson turned the game around. Sweden’s substitute Svensson scored the winning goal off a corner kick in the third minute of injury time.
Frei attracts the third title
In the final, Seattle faces the Columbus Crew on Sunday night, who defeated the New England Revolution 1-0 in the other semifinal. Frei will have a chance to win the MLS title for the third time after 2016 and 2019.
