Horrible find
Investigations into a dead person found in Egnacher Waldstück continue: after calling a witness, several clues are checked
In a forest near Egnach, a man discovered the remains of a person on Saturday morning. According to the Thurgau canton police, “the entire body was not found.” The forest will be searched again on Monday and the police are following several leads from the population.
On Saturday morning, shortly after 10 am, a man discovered the remains of a person in a wooded area near Egnach “Sangehölzli”. He immediately informed the police. Specialists from the forensic service of the Thurgau canton police and the St. Gallen Institute of Forensic Medicine secured the leads at the scene until evening.
Population information is verified
As Daniel Meili, media spokesman for the Thurgau cantonal police reported, on Monday morning upon request, after witnesses were called, several reports were received from the population. Now they would be checked. In addition, the police re-search the forest.
Daniel Meili cannot answer the question whether there is a connection to a woman from Bottighofen who has been missing since mid-November. Neither the cause of death nor the identity of the deceased found has been clarified. The missing woman has not yet been found. If a corpse is found, a comparison is made with missing persons from Germany and abroad if necessary.
Was it an animal?
Daniel Meili goes on to say that “the entire body was not found.” Kapo’s media spokesperson cannot reveal what exactly the passerby has discovered for tactical reasons. “But that does not automatically indicate a violent crime.” Animals could also be responsible for the condition of the corpse, depending on how long the corpse has been in the forest.
So far it is not clear if the dead person is a woman or a man. The remains were transferred to the St. Gallen Institute of Forensic Medicine in order to identify and investigate the cause of death. Meili:
“The investigations are going in all directions.”
According to the media spokesperson, the man found the body parts on the southern edge of the forest in the direction of the village of Fetzisloh. The main road between Arbon and Romanshorn runs on the other side. The adult person who made the gruesome discovery did not need psychological attention.
It is not the first find of its kind in Thurgau.
It is not the first time that a corpse has caused a stir in a forest in the canton of Thurgau. In late January 2018, Manfred Hunziker found the corpse of a woman rolled up in a green carpet in his forest in Wilderetobel near Zezikon. It was later learned that the dead woman was Isabella T., a missing woman from Aargau. Investigators initially assumed the murder was premeditated. Authorities now speculate that Isabella T. died of a drug overdose. The investigations against the three men continue, it is also about the lack of emergency aid and the alteration of the peace of the dead.
At the end of November this year, the St. Gallen District Court sentenced a 37-year-old Serb to 16 years in prison for the murder of a compatriot. The perpetrator had killed his victim for gambling debts and then burned the body in a wooded area near the village of Pulvershaus. A walker had found the charred corpse in the forest.
