For decades, consumers were inspired by the advertising medium of the Swedish furniture giant, now the end of the IKEA catalog is done.

Swedish furniture giant IKEA is discontinuing its catalog after seven decades. Interest in the catalog has waned. With that said, Konrad Gruss, director of Inter IKEA Systems, a division of the Inter IKEA Group brand owner, on Monday.

Consumers were increasingly looking for inspiration online and were shopping more and more online. In the twelve months to the end of August, online sales increased 45 percent.

Distributed to homes since 1951

The IKEA catalog reached its peak in 2016 when more than 200 million copies were distributed to IKEA homes and stores in more than 50 markets. This year the circulation was 40 million.



The first issue of 1951 with the MK Wing Chair on the cover had a circulation of 285,000 copies and was distributed in southern Sweden.
