Bundesliga: BVB stumbles in Frankfurt – Embolo meets in Freiburg

Spectacular draw between Bayern and Leipzig – Dortmund score points again

On Saturday afternoon there were several surprises in the Bundesliga: Dortmund, Wolfsburg and Gladbach dropped all the points. In the top match in Munich there were six goals.

Bayern Munich – Leipzig 3: 3

Bayern Munich defended the first place in the first match of the tenth day of the Bundesliga. In the home game against RB Leipzig, the champion was 3: 3 after being twice behind and kept the pursuers at bay. Borussia Dortmund could not benefit from this draw.

Thomas Müller saved Bayern Munich from imminent defeat. The forward tied a quarter of an hour before the end with a 3: 3 header. The cross was thrown by Frenchman Kingsley Coman, who set up Bayern’s three goals. Top scorer Robert Lewandowski, however, left empty-handed for once.

Bayern can live well with the tie in the top game. Therefore, it will remain first. But they have to worry about their defense. Against Leipzig, the winner of the Champions League in the Bundesliga conceded goals 14 to 16; Eight teams, nearly half the league, have a better record than the defending champion after ten rounds.

Pursuit Leipzig could not benefit from Bayern’s weakness because for once he himself did not defend enough. So “RB” played an advantage twice and missed the forward jump. But the same applies to Leipzig: you can live with this result. Especially since coach Julian Nagelsmann had already said before the game that next Tuesday’s game in the Champions League against Manchester United was more important. So at that point, Leipzig needs a win to advance to the round of 16.

Borussia Dortmund could not take advantage of the 3: 3 between Bayern and Leipzig to move up the rankings. A week after the disappointing home loss to 1. FC Köln, BVB also failed to beat Eintracht Frankfurt away. Thanks to a post-halftime increase and a remarkable long-distance goal from Giovanni Reyna in the 56th minute, Lucien Favre’s side at least made it 1-1.

Dortmund was the best team throughout the game and despite the initial deficit. But like Wednesday in the Champions League in the home game against Lazio Roma (1: 1), very few accounting things seemed outside the playful domain. Compared to the duel with the Italians, Favre traded seven players for the starting lineup. The Swiss had to do without his compatriot Manuel Akanji involuntarily. The central defender was absent due to knee problems.

Freiburg 2-2 Gladbach

The knot was broken in the eighth game: Breel Embolo scored his first Bundesliga goal of this season in a 2-2 draw against SC Freiburg. The Swiss made a strong combination against Freiburg in the 23rd minute with Gladbach’s 1-0 lead.

As a result, however, the foals found it difficult. Freiburg rose stronger and stronger, equalized and even took the lead in the 49th minute. After falling behind, the guests managed to react quickly – Alassane Pléa scored to equalize one minute after the 2-1 draw – but Gladbach was not enough for more. In the end, Borussia were even lucky: Freiburg’s Vincenzo Grifo hit the post in the 78th minute.

Cologne 2-2 Wolfsburg

1. FC Köln upset the next higher team a week after the win against Dortmund. Cologne played at home against VfL Wolfsburg 2-2. Jan Thielmann and Ondrej Duda led the home team in the lead twice, Maximilian Arnold and Wout Weghorst each tied for Wolfsburg.

The goats owe the fact that there was at least one point for Colonia mainly to Timo Horn. The Cologne goalkeeper showed a great performance and thwarted two great chances in the first 20 minutes.

Bielefeld – Mainz 2: 1

Give the newly promoted Bielefeld a sigh of relief: After seven losses in a row, Arminia prevailed 2-0 in the basement match against Mainz. Manuel Prietl and Ritsu Doan scored both goals for the home team, who kept the game under control for long stretches. Mainz only got really dangerous late, more than the connection goal was not possible for the guests.

Thanks to the victory, Bielefeld overtook Mainz in the table and now ranks 16th in the Bundesliga. Mainz, on the other hand, would return to last place if Schalke won on Sunday.
