Filip Zubcic appeared a lot in the giant slalom in Santa Caterina, Italy, in the second race. The Croatian, still in sixth place after the first round, set the second best time in the snow and took the lead. The competition could no longer dispute the 27-year-old’s victory.
The leader after the first heat, the Slovenian Zan Kranjec, got ahead of Zubcic until the last half time, but in the end he had to admit defeat to the Croatian by 12 hundredths.
Odermatt and Meillard strong
Marco Odermatt once again showed a strong career. After the second intermediate classification, he was able to wait for third place and missed the first Swiss victory in a World Cup giant slalom in almost 10 years by just 3 tenths.
Thanks to this classification, the man from Nidwalden, who finished second in Sölden at the start of the season, takes the lead in the Giant Slalom World Cup.
Loïc Meillard lost the podium by just 36 hundredths and finished the race in fourth place.

Similar to St. Moritz, where the women’s Super-G had to be canceled early Saturday morning due to the rapid fall, Holle also let it snow heavily in Santa Caterina. When asked about the difficult conditions, Bissig said after the first race: “After 10 goals you hardly saw anything.”

The next men’s race is scheduled for Sunday. Another giant slalom will take place on the Santa Caterina track (first race at 9:45 am, second race at 1:00 pm at SRF Zwei).
