Changes at St. Gallen City Council make sense
Three out of five municipal directorates will have a new headline in 2021. This castling is understandable and also makes sense, as Daniel Wirth, head of the editorial office for the city of Tagblatt, writes in his comment.
Newly elected mayor Maria Pappa takes over the internal affairs and finance department. This may not be a matter of the heart. During the election campaign, Pappa repeatedly said that she was considering continuing to be the construction director as city president. She made a different decision, and that’s a good thing: finances, which have an impact on all other directions, are correctly assigned to the boss.
It also makes sense for Markus Buschor to move to the Planning and Construction Directorate. He is an architect. As the principal of the school, Buschor has had turbulent times; the conflict between the school and the music department and the teachers’ union and the establishment of cooperation with the Catholic cantonal high school in Flade were intense. The school leadership is now in calm waters and ready for a new captain.
It is a happy coincidence that Mathias Gabathuler is an education specialist. Because the FDP man had to take what was left. As the principal of a secondary school, you meet the decision-makers in the canton. This is valuable, especially since the bus choir and the director of education Stefan Kölliker did not have the hay on the same stage.
