General Electric announces another job cuts: this time, 83 jobs in the Steam Power division at Birr AG and at the Fieldcore subsidiary in Baden AG are going to disappear. A total of 380 people work in these two units.
This is not the first time the American company has announced job cuts this year. At the Oberentfelden AG plant, 562 jobs will be cut. The clarification and consultation processes are still ongoing here. Overall, GE plans to cut more than 700 jobs.
Crown crisis and pressure from China
In June 2019, the group had already announced the cut of 450 jobs at Baden and Birr AG. Upon completion of the consultation process, 200 employees received the blue letter.
Pressure from China and now the Crown crisis are causing a lack of orders in the machinery, electricity and metal (MEM) industries in Switzerland. Other large companies in the sector are also suffering and have to cut jobs. (vnf)
