An eleven year old boy wanted to stop the bus for a woman and kept his foot on it. Despite the sensor, the door was closed and the boy was dragged 90 meters at 28 km / h. Now the 54-year-old driver was on trial. He was charged with negligent assault, reports “20 minutes.”
The incident occurred in February 2019 at the Einfangstrasse stop in Zurich-Affoltern. When the fifth grader got off the bus, he noticed a woman running towards him. The boy tried to open the door with his foot.
The driver apparently did not notice the eleven-year-old and the sensor did not react as it should. The misfortune ran its course. The driver accelerated to 28 km / h. The boy was dragged on his back. Only when a woman on the bus sounded the alarm did the bus stop after about 90 meters.
Child suffered abrasions
Now the driver has been acquitted. The judge described as “very lucky” that nothing else happened. The 11-year-old only suffered abrasions above the coccyx and buttocks in the accident. Since he was dragged 90 meters, the injuries could have been much more serious, the judge said.
The prosecution accused the driver of not looking in the right mirror before leaving. Otherwise, he would have seen that something was wrong with the back door.
However, the driver’s attorney argued that the stop was on a left turn. Therefore, the driver could not see the end of his articulated bus, which is 18 meters away. Also, the system did not inform him that something was wrong. All the doors were properly closed, otherwise the driver would not have been able to get out.
The Swiss, who has worked as a driver for twenty years, refused to testify in court. Not because your attorney advised you to do so for tactical reasons. Rather, because he was “shocked and overwhelmed.”
Since then, the boy has still had to go to therapy due to his knee and back, he writes “20 minutes.” It is not clear why the cheat protection did not work. (man / SDA)
