Bern win in extra time in first game after changing coach
SC Bern won a duel between two quarantine-damaged clubs at EV Zug 2-1 after extra time. In the first game after the resignation of coach Don Nachbaur, Bern fought for a somewhat fortunate but laborious away win against the championship favorites. Ted Brithén secured a successful debut for interim manager Mario Kogler. The Swede made the decision after a great combination with 46 seconds remaining.
The two Swiss ice hockey heavyweights couldn’t hide their lack of practice in games. Zug played his last match on November 14, Bern on November 17 (both won against Rapperswil-Jona), after which they both had to go to Corona quarantine.

It was until the 19th minute before Simon Sterchi, coming straight from the penalty area, scored the SCB’s first goal. In fact, Sterchi is on loan to Swiss League club Visp and made his first appearance in the first division. It was even longer before Zug’s team tied at the start of the final section through Jan Kovar. The nominal replacement goals Luca Hollenstein (Zug, 21 shows) and especially Philip Wüthrich (Bern, 37) showed a good performance. The two opponents will meet again on Friday, this time in Bern.
