Graubünden is tightening the screws in the fight against Corona. All restaurants will be closed from Friday at 11 pm For two weeks. The delivery of food at home and take away food is still allowed until 10.00 p.m. and the operation of restaurants in hotels for hotel guests. The canton of tourism wants to reduce the number of infections shortly before the start of the season.
“Better now than in 14 days,” says Andreas Züllig (61), President of Hotelleriesuisse and owner of the Hotel Schweizerhof in Lenzerheide GR. “During the holidays, a closure would be much worse for the restaurant sector.” You have to reduce the number of infections in Graubünden to save the festive season. “If we can do that, we will have gotten away with a light blue eye,” Züllig tells BLICK.
Don’t heat up in the mountain pub
After all: hotel guests can still eat and drink in their hotels. “We can keep a minimum offer, but you can no longer spontaneously go to a bar at night,” explains Züllig. And: “You can ski, but you can’t warm up in a mountain pub.” That is suboptimal.
“We reluctantly accept closures,” he explains. Because if you have the feeling that your vacation destination is a Corona hotspot, you must stay home. Your hotel is also affected. “We have many outside guests who want to spend a weekend in the snow and eat with us, we will miss them,” he says.
Newly canceled orders
Isn’t your image damaged even if you can reopen the bar during the holidays? Züllig: “After all, the measure shows that we are doing something, that we are trying everything and that we are taking responsibility.” The pressure from Federal Councilor Alain Berset (48) on cantons, such as Zurich and Graubünden, has increased significantly in recent days.

“Fresh frozen pizzoccheris”
Ralf Steinlehner (52), owner of the Trais Portas restaurant in Scuol GR, has to abruptly suspend the start of the season at the weekend. “The pizzoccheri are ready, the cook is still in the kitchen making soup,” Steinlehner explains to BLICK on Thursday night. Now everything has to be frozen. Shortly after the news on the radio about the shutdown until December 18, he signed up for a part-time job for his employees.
