After about eight years, the name Schumacher returns to Formula 1. Mick Schumacher, son of record world champion Michael Schumacher, will compete for the American team Haas starting next season. The close collaboration between Haas and Ferrari was helpful to Mick Schumacher. The 21-year-old German has been a member of Ferrari’s youth academy since January 2019.

On Friday next week, Schumacher will drive his first kilometers for Haas during practice in Abu Dhabi. It is also used in the test for young drivers after the end of the season at the Yas Marina circuit. He is currently still in action in Formula 2 for the Italian team Prema.

Masepin is also new to the team

In Formula 1, Schumacher will compete for a team that disappointed this year. With just three points, Haas is second to last in the constructors’ championship. The two current regulars, Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen, have to leave the team. In addition to Mick Schumacher, Haas will have Russian Nikita Masepin next season.

Last weekend, Grosjean’s serious racing accident unintentionally brought the team to the headlines. The Romand miraculously survived the horrific accident almost unscathed and was able to leave the hospital in the meantime.
