The search for the origin of the new lung disease Covid-19 is difficult. The place of residence of “Patient Zero” may never be found. China is widely regarded as the cradle of lung disease. It is also said that it has systematically covered up the disease, reduced the number of infections and concealed the dead, they are accusations. But apparently China’s claims that the initial infection did not occur in Wuhan may not be so absurd.
As a study by the US health authority, the CDC, records in its specialized journal “Clinical Infectious Diseases”, the first corona infections may have occurred in the US as early as December 2019. That would be more than a month before the first confirmed infection in the US.
CDC scientists examined 7389 blood donations delivered to the Red Cross between December 13 and January 17. The researchers found antibodies to the coronavirus in 106 of the blood samples.
Infections in the U.S. Earlier than previously thought
Some of the blood donations had already taken place between December 13 and 16 in the west coast states of California, Oregon and Washington. The study authors conclude: “The findings of this study suggest that SARS-CoV-2 infections existed in the US as early as December 2019, earlier than previously known.”
The United States confirmed its first official Corona case on January 20: The 35-year-old patient had just returned from Wuhan and had gone to a clinic the day before with symptoms of the disease.
The US study confirms research from Italy and France, which suggests the virus was already circulating in several other countries before it was identified in China and triggered a global pandemic. The United States now has 13.7 million infections and soon 270,000 deaths. (kes)
