Louis Schaub was the defining figure on the Stade de Genève pitch in FC Luzern’s 3-1 win over Servette FC. The Austrian international was involved in practically every action on the opponent’s court, behaving extremely intelligently on the ball and impressing with his efficiency. He was directly involved in all the objectives of his team:
- 23. Minute: The Lucernians licked the opponent’s ball while building the game. Dejan Sorgic plays at Schaub. The 25-year-old keeps his cool, leaves Servettes Steve Rouiller with a hook and goes safe to 1-0 for the guests.
- 67. Minute: Schaub served Sorgic with a good outside foot pass, which headed for his third goal of the season without issue. The central Swiss cheer hesitantly at first, but Sorgic is not offside – 2-0 for FCL.
- 79. Minute: Schaub has been in the Geneva penalty area for a long time and slips into attacker Ibrahima Ndiaye at the far post. This easily pushes the final result of 3: 1.
Lucerne survives critical minutes
However, coach Fabio Celestini’s team was about to give up the victory. Rouiller scored from a corner in the 77th minute and suddenly put Servette back on the line. But Lucerne kept calm and immediately regained the 2-goal lead.
The home team couldn’t create many chances during the 90 minutes and had a lot of trouble building the game. The replacement of last year’s top scorer, Miroslav Stevanovic, who returned from a knee injury, brought fresh momentum, but it was not enough for a points win against Lucerne with the formidable Schaub. Therefore, Servette is now at the bottom of the table with one game less.
So it goes
Lucerne receives Sion next Wednesday and wants to continue its upward trend. Servette will also play FC Zurich at home on Wednesday.
