For Inter Milan, the knockout stages of the Champions League are a long way off. The Italians lost 2-0 to Real Madrid at home and have little chance of finishing 1 or 2. The game’s innovative scene took place after about half an hour:
- Arturo Vidal tries to shoot the ball down the left into the penalty area when Raphaël Varane removes the ball from his foot. Referee Anthony Taylor lets go, much to the chagrin of the Inter players, who immediately play with the English. Vidal is exaggerating. The 33-year-old Chilean does not calm down even after a warning, he takes another step towards Taylor, who finds him too showy and sends Vidal to the shower with the traffic light card.
Real had already given the “Nerazzuri” a first blow to the neck in minute 5 when Eden Hazard converted a penalty up front. Zinédine Zidane’s team could have easily entered the catacombs with a more comfortable cushion at half-time: Lucas Vázquez (13th) missed the post, Ferland Mendy (17th) fired a shot from a promising position.
After the break, Rodrygo put out the intermittent straw fire with a deflected shot with the decisive 2-0, just 23 seconds after his substitution. This eventually broke the resistance of the Milanese, who were generally terribly weak.
The Swiss leads Gladbach to a threesome
The two Swiss Breel Embolo and Nico Elvedi signed the list of goalscorers in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s well-deserved 4-0 home win against Shakhtar Donetsk. Elvedi headed it to 2-0 in the 34th minute. Embolo ended the game with a goal from an aerial kick in injury time in the first half. Yann Sommer showed a sovereign performance in Gladbach’s goal. Denis Zakaria reached his first minutes in the “premier class” from minute 69.
Dark prospects for Inter
Gladbach leads the group B table with 8 points, followed by Real Madrid (7) and Shakhtar Donetsk (4). Inter Milan is behind with only 2 points. To advance, Inter must win the remaining two games, Gladbach and Real lose twice.
