Argentine soccer hero Diego Armando Maradona has died, deceased at the age of 60, as announced on Wednesday by the Argentine soccer association AFA and confirmed by his lawyer.

The soccer legend reportedly died on Wednesday morning local time of a heart attack at his home in the city of Tigre. The Argentine government ordered a three-day state duel.

Recently, Maradona had to undergo surgery for a brain hemorrhage. His lawyer said that he recovered for the last time from his operation at his home on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

The Argentine has a long history of addiction to drugs and alcohol. Maradona also had to deal with health problems over and over again. He suffered two heart attacks, contracted hepatitis, and underwent gastric bypass surgery because he was severely overweight.

More recently, Maradona was the coach of the Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata club. His action in the 1986 World Cup quarter-finals when he kicked the ball into goal against England made him unforgettable. He then claimed that the “hand of God” was involved.
