The Super League table is very confusing at the moment. There should be a clearer picture by December 9.
After the eighth round, the Super League table is more chaotic than ever. Team positions can be misleading these days, even the highest ranking of Master YB.
The Young Boys competed five times at Wankdorf in the first eight rounds. One of the three planned away games, that of Lugano, was postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. So Berns have played five games at home and only two away from home so far.
The strength of the Bernese at home is unmatched: they have not lost any of their last 35 games in Wankdorf, 31 of which have been won. In other stadiums they had more problems last season. They had a slightly positive record of seven wins and six losses (with five draws). They played 0-0 in the first two away games of the season.
Summary of the Superliga games
Club | Home games | Away games |
Young boys | 5 | 2 |
Lugano | 3 | 4 |
St. Gallen | 4 | 4 |
Zürich | 3 | 4 |
Lausanne-Sport | 3 | 3 |
Basel | 2 | 4 |
Servette | 3 | 2 |
Zion | 3 | 2 |
Lucerne | 3 | 4 |
Vaduz | 3 | 3 |
Basel has been further and further away from home so far
By contrast, long-term rivals Basel have only played two of their six home games to date. The five losing points that Basel is behind YB, therefore, do not have to mean too much.
It will be much easier to tell how distorted this really is after December 9. By this date, all supplementary games should have been played with the exception of the aforementioned Lugano – YB game. After that, you will no longer have to read the table for lost points, as long as the games do not move again.
87.5 percent close results
Even after eight rounds, out of the ten teams, only St. Gallen played eight times, the proportion of adjusted results is higher than ever in the Super League, which was introduced in 2003. 28 of the 32 games ended in a draw or with a goal difference. That’s 87.5 percent of all games.
