Former ski racer Doris De Agostini from Ticino died at the age of 62 after a brief serious illness. Swiss-Ski confirmed the corresponding media reports from Ticino.

The Airolo downhill specialist catapulted herself into the hearts of skiing in Switzerland in 1976 at the age of 17 when she sensationally won the Downhill World Cup in Bad Gastein. He competed in the World Cup until 1983 and won a total of eight races.

De Agostini participated in the Olympic Games twice in Innsbruck in 1976 and in Lake Placid in 1980 and won the bronze medal in downhill at the 1978 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Athlete of the Year

In 1983, at the age of 25, she resigned at the top, as the winner of the Downhill World Cup. That final season, De Agostini won the Val d’Isère, Schruns and Les Diablerets races. In 1983 she was also voted Swiss Sportsman of the Year.
