It was not football food for gourmets, but rather a tough game developed at Swissporarena, with very little chance of scoring. At least there was some drama at the end at the height of the crisis between the yet-to-win Super League duo Lucerne vs. Vaduz.
Milan Gajic accelerated from the penalty spot in the 87th minute and sank for the promoted team to make it 1-1. FCL goalkeeper Marius Müller was in the wrong corner. Before that, Matteo Di Giusto fell into the penalty area after a duel with Martin Frydek and took a strictly awarded penalty. The Ländle team earned an almost princely salary, measured by their poor performance.
Sorgic feeds hope, Carbonell destroys it
Alex Carbonell, who was sent to the shower prematurely in the 50th minute, had done his colors a disservice. The 14th Spaniard in the home team’s midfield got a double yellow in the ignominious record time of 42 (!) Seconds. First he received a warning for stopping, then he faced Linus Obexer too impetuously.
The eleven counted by coach Fabio Celestini had imagined that they were on their way to redemption from minute 31. Auxerre’s move Dejan Sorgic scored his second goal of the season. After inadequate defense by guest goalkeeper Benjamin Büchel, a header from Marvin Schulz became the ideal squad, which the veteran only had to insert.
But Lucerne also missed the premiere of the victory in the seventh game of the championship. With the 1-1 tie, the two boys from the basement enter their place.
So it goes
The FCL will make the next attempt at the long-awaited break in a week at Servette. Vaduz competes against FC Sion at home on the same day. The Valais haven’t had a single trio either.
