The podium
- 1. Petra Vlhova (SVK) 1: 50,11
- 2. Mikaela Shiffrin (United States) +0.18
- 3. Katharina Liensberger (AUT) +0.57
Petra Vlhova won the World Cup slalom in Levi. The Slovak took the lead in the first heat and defended this position with a sovereign last run. Although he was taking risks downstairs, he set the fastest time for the second time. It is his fourth consecutive slalom victory in all seasons.
In addition to the prize money, he receives a reindeer, as is usual for Levi. He had already won in Finland in 2017. “Last year I was eliminated in the second race, the happier I am for the victory,” said the 25-year-old.
Shiffrin strong despite a long break
In her first race after a 300-day hiatus (corona pandemic, father death, injury), Shiffrin proved that she can be expected again this winter. However, it is doubtful that the ambitious 25-year-old is satisfied with second place. Liensberger, 23, took the slalom podium for the third time.
Swiss women
- 4. Wendy Holdener +1.35
- 5. Michelle Gisin +1.41
- 9. Mélanie Meillard +2.10
Holdener and Gisin narrowly missed the podium spots in terms of qualifying, but there was a long way to go in terms of time. After the first race, Gisin was just ahead of Holdener.
Meillard had a good comeback run. The Valais woman, who has barely raced in the past two winters due to injuries, finished in ninth place with starting number 32.
The Swedes did not start. The entire team around Anna Swenn-Larsson was quarantined after a corona case on the coaching staff. Unlike most other World Cup races this season, a limited number of spectators was allowed.
So it goes
There will already be an opportunity to take revenge on Sunday: this year there will be two women’s slaloms in Levi. SRF Two will broadcast again starting at 10:00 am A parallel race is scheduled for next Thursday in Lech-Zürs, Austria.
