Nightmare accident at the service station on the Kölliken-Süd motorway. On Tuesday, shortly after 8 p.m., truck drivers who had parked their vehicles in the parking lot heard a loud bang. Shocked drivers discovered that an Audi had crashed violently into the rear of two semi-trailers.
The police and the ambulance quickly arrived at the scene. In the hugely demolished car accident, they found a person for whom help came too late.
The victim lived in the Basel area.
Aargau canton police were able to identify the deceased as a 22-year-old Swiss citizen from the Basel area, according to a message. The man had left the A1 in his Audi in the direction of Zurich and hit the trailer “at high speed”.
The Audi was sunk by the force of the impact. Both trailers suffered serious damage.
Investigation started
Initial investigations by the Aargau canton police indicate that the 22-year-old drove into the truck with suicidal intentions. The Zofingen-Kulm prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident.
The recovery and clean-up work lasted until the early hours of the morning. Until then, the police blocked access to the rest stop. (noo)
