  • The American metropolis of New York found its first Christmas surprise of the year at the world famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
  • A small owl hid among the strong branches of the 20-meter-high spruce and was rescued by a worker, US media unanimously reported.
  • Apparently, it had stayed in the tree north of the big city since it was cut down and even survived the heavy truck ride to downtown Manhattan unscathed.

According to the local Ravensbeard Wildlife Center where the worker brought the owl, the animal is a saw owl, a particularly small species of North American owl. The center posted photos of the owl, appropriately dubbed “Rockefeller,” as it looks out of a box with big eyes.

“I hadn’t eaten or drunk anything for three days,” read a Facebook post. Now, however, “Rockefeller” has returned to ingest enough fluids and has also eaten some mice. The owl should soon be returned to the wild.

The still undecorated Christmas tree.

Legend:

On Saturday, workers set up the traditional Christmas tree in front of Rockefeller Center in the heart of New York. It is probably the most famous fir in the world.
