Bern cracked down. Not only cinemas, museums, concert halls and theaters are closed, gyms and indoor swimming pools have also had to close their doors, as well as brothels. This makes Bern the canton with the strictest crown measures in German-speaking Switzerland.
Will it continue like this? At a press conference this afternoon, the Berne governing council will provide information on how to proceed. The cultural sector asks that the measures be relaxed, to guarantee the survival of the companies, but also with a view to the population. “It’s about the quality of life even in a state of emergency,” writes the coordinating organization Bekult, which represents the interests of the canton’s cultural organizers.
French-speaking Swiss patients
While the Crown’s measures in Bern go far from a German-speaking Swiss perspective, from a French-speaking Swiss perspective they are sometimes comparatively soft. In Geneva all shops except essentials are closed, in other cantons of French-speaking Switzerland restaurants are closed. In Bern, therefore, there is a trend towards shopping and gastronomy tourism from western Switzerland. There are also many patients from French-speaking Switzerland in Bern hospitals.
Bern has requested help from the army to support the health system. Currently ten soldiers and five ambulance vehicles are used.
Federal Councilor Berset in Ticino
Members of the army also help in Ticino. Health Minister Alain Berset is visiting today. After visiting a hospital in Lugano, he will answer journalists’ questions at a lunchtime press conference together with Prime Minister Norman Gobbi.
VIEW broadcasts live the two press conferences: those of Ticino from 12:15 p.m. Those in Bern from 2pm. (lha)
