Travel agencies, hotels and event companies: All have slipped into the abyss through no fault of their own because of the corona virus. Now the Federal Council wants to absorb them economically. Instead of the 400 million proposed above, the federal government and the cantons will provide up to 1.2 billion francs for difficult cases, according to Federal Bern.
According to the information from BLICK, the distribution key must also be adjusted. As originally planned, half of the first tranche of 400 million will be distributed on the shoulders of the federal government and the cantons. The money for the second tranche of 800 million, on the other hand, will flow 80 percent from the federal coffers and only 20 percent from the cantonal coffers. Several cantons and poor sectors had requested it in recent weeks.
Quick help
The staggering of contributions aims to ensure that aid reaches those affected as quickly as possible. Because the first 400 million can be paid as of December according to the current Covid law, which establishes a “50/50” rule. Parliament could then adjust the distribution key for the second tranche in the winter session as part of an urgent procedure.
It is not yet clear whether the cantons will pass the money on to companies in the form of loans or contributions from À-fonds-perdu. The actual amount of the hardship package is also likely to be debated in Federal Council today.
Money for sports
Sports associations can also expect help. According to the online portal Watson, the Minister of Sports Viola Amherd (58) wants to win 115 million euros for the highest leagues of football, ice hockey, basketball, volleyball, handball and handball. A total of 44 professional clubs and 89 semi-professional clubs should benefit from the cash blessing.
According to Watson, the 115 million is intended to replace the revenue of viewers missing since October. And they should, among other things, be tied to the condition that the clubs financially support their youth and women’s department as much as in the 2018/2019 season. In May, the Federal Council approved a comprehensive aid package worth 350 million Swiss francs for professional football and ice hockey leagues.
At 2:30 pm Federal Councilors Ueli Maurer, Guy Parmelin and Viola Amherd will appear in front of the media today. VIEW live reports. (until)
