Kimi Räikkönen (8th) and Antonio Giovinazzi (10th) finish in the top 10 in qualifying for the Turkish GP and Lance Stroll takes pole.
More than a year ago, at the Austrian Grand Prix, the two Alfa Romeo drivers were in the top 10 for the last time after qualifying. At the Turkish GP, Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi repeated this feat and will tackle the race from places 8 and 10 respectively. Particularly rewarding: the drivers managed to take advantage of the team’s 500 GP weekend from all over.
Pole for walking
For the first time this year, none of the “Silver Arrows” salutes from above. Lance Stroll surprisingly took pole position on the track in Istanbul that was recently paved two weeks ago. It is his first Polish. Max Verstappen will start alongside Stroll from the front row, followed by Sergio Pérez. Lewis Hamilton starts the race from sixth place, Valtteri Bottas starts from ninth place.
Difficult conditions
Weather was the main concern for the unusual qualifying result. At first, heavy rains fell on Istanbul. After a failed attempt to carry out the classification, it was interrupted for almost an hour. It was only when the rain subsided that it was possible to drive again, even if conditions were still challenging.
Hamilton can perfect his seventh world title early Sunday, he must lose no more than 7 world championship points to Bottas.
