In times of uncertainty like these, the desire for security prevails: for 9 out of 10 employees, the most important thing is to keep their job. And yet 94 percent of employees worry about going back to work. Feelings vary according to age, sex, and living conditions. This is the conclusion of a survey conducted by the Manpower employment agency in eight countries.
The differences are large depending on the generation. Very young Gen Z members are more interested in returning to their jobs for professional development and socializing (51 percent).
Family health concerns
Millennials are the least positive about this (38 percent). The reason: they are more concerned about their health and that of their families. And they want to travel as little as possible. At the same time, the elderly are the least willing to give up the new flexibility of working from home.
But what is left after Corona? Many employees believe that the current health crisis means the end of fixed work hours in the office. You want a hybrid work model that combines office work and mobile work. Bottom line: a long-term work-life balance. 80 percent of the 8,000 respondents explicitly want this.
Greater desire for flexibility
“The survey shows that returning to everyday life in the office worries employees on two levels: on the one hand, concern for their health and safety at work, on the other hand, the desire for flexibility to better combine work and life private. Companies will have to adapt to this new situation, ”says Gianni Valeri, Manpower Switzerland director.
He also says of companies: “Those who put wellness and flexibility to the fore and at the same time show how they deal with social shock in tough times, will be more likely to attract and retain talent. In this way, they ensure that employees are confident, healthy and productive. “(Pbe)
