Until a few years ago, the intelligence service destroyed files, such as a report on the Crypto case records. That makes the supervision prone to hearing.
According to the findings of the corporate audit delegation (GPDel), the intelligence service illegally destroyed files from 2011 to 2014. This has not escaped the notice of the independent intelligence supervisory authority (AB-ND).
For its manager, Thomas Fritschi, after reading the GPDel report, one thing is for sure: “We are analyzing this report for future test options for the AB-ND. Of course, this also includes the issues of archiving and destruction. We can imagine including this in future reviews. “
Parliament’s business audit delegation criticizes not only the destruction of files, but also the filing of certain documents by the intelligence service. The FIS stored certain files, including those related to the Crypto case, on an army command system, where they were completely hidden from the public. The documents came to light only a year ago.
From the bunker to the federal archives
Now the NDB wants to clarify this past to some extent: it wants to give up at least part of its hidden file. He would like to deliver some of the documents to the Federal Archives soon. “The FIS assured the Federal Archives that the principle of central archiving and a uniform regulation of access to archived material is indisputable,” explains Federal Archives at the request of SRF.
In other words: part of the archives of the army command system, the so-called K system, must now be archived so that these documents can also be found. Specifically, the intelligence service offers the Federal Archives those archives that they no longer need, the Federal Archive reports: “These include, among other things, all the documents about Crypto that are in the K system.”
The crypto files will be moved to the Federal Archives at the end of February, where the business audit delegation also believes they belong.
