Swiss Postfinance plans to launch its own digital bank next year. Now it is clear how the company intends to take this step in such a short time: with a joint venture.
Postfinance wants a digital bank; this is part of the new strategy through which finews.ch reported in late August. The Correos subsidiary announced that the new service would be launched next year.
Postfinance now also explains how it intends to implement the ambitious goal of establishing a digital bank in just over a year: the company is initiating a cooperation with Switzerland’s largest online bank, Swissquote, from which the digital bank will emerge. Because the application had been working on for some time, which will now be further developed within this joint venture.

For Swissquote, digital banking is an essential part of the strategy, such an application is the logical development of its offering, as revealed in a press release from the two companies on Wednesday.
This “new and purely digital offering” (according to Postfinance) is supposed to be the way finews.ch In September, it reported that challenging mobile banks such as Revolut or Neon worked on the model, with a free basic offer and the possibility of obtaining premium services through a model called pay-per-use.
The transaction is still subject to the usual regulatory approvals, according to the announcement. As soon as the introduction of a specific market offering is imminent, further details will be communicated, i.e. in the first half of 2021.
