  • Daniil Medvedev wins the ATP 1000 tournament in the Paris-Bercy room.
  • In the final, the Russian defeated Alexander Zverev with 5: 7, 6: 4, 6: 1.
  • Medvedev halts his German rival’s 12-win streak.

Daniil Medvedev managed to turn things around in the second set at exactly the right time. When the score was 4: 4, the Russian reached the decisive break against Alexander Zverev. That seemed to give him enough momentum to win the entire duel: first he got the 2nd round and then came in with a double break in the deciding set.

Zverev only won one game. The German gave his rival the last point of the match at 2:07 with a double fault. The 23-year-old could have celebrated his thirteenth consecutive victory against Medvedev, the victory at Paris-Bercy would have been the third consecutive victory in a tournament for the new world number 6.

The resurrection of Medvedev

Medvedev, for his part, surpassed Roger Federer in the world rankings on Monday and is now fourth, that was already clear after the final classification. For the 24-year-old, the Paris tournament was something of a resurrection: Medvedev had not been able to reach a tournament final since the title in Shanghai 13 months ago.

So now Medvedev was in top form just before the ATP Finals in London, the highlight of the last season. If he plays there like in the 2nd and 3rd set against Zverev, he can definitely improve his final record: he was there for the first time 12 months ago and had lost all 3 games.
