Rafael Nadal defeats Feliciano López at Paris-Bercy in 3 sets and celebrates his 1000th win on the ATP tour.

Almost 6 years after Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal has also reached an elite circle on the ATP tour. The Spaniard beat his compatriot Feliciano López in his first match after more than two and a half hours with 4: 6, 7: 6 (7: 5) and 6: 4. The 34-year-old celebrated his 1000th victory in the ATP circuit.

“That means I’m old,” Nadal joked after his success, adding: “Reaching this number means I’ve played well for several years. And that makes me happy.”

More than 18 years after the premiere

Before him, only Jimmy Connors (1274), Roger Federer (1242) and Ivan Lendl (1068) had achieved it. Nadal’s 1,000th victory on the ATP Tour followed more than 18 years after his first success. In April 2002 it celebrated its premiere in Mallorca with Ramon Delgado from Paraguay.

On Thursday, the current world No. 2 will face Australian Jordan Thompson (ATP 61) in his second appearance at Paris-Bercy.
