Nidwalden limits the number of participants in events and extends the mask requirement.
A maximum of 30 people can still participate in public events. That was decided by the Nidwalden governing council. It is also expanding the requirement for masks in schools and closing sex businesses.
In the canton of Nidwalden, expanded protective measures to combat the corona virus will be implemented from Wednesday. The governing council has set the maximum limit for the number of participants in events at 30, as announced by the state chancellery. By doing so, you are issuing the same restriction as Schwyz and Obwalden. The federal government allows 50 people. Political gatherings subject to the mask requirement are exempt from the restrictions.
“One of the findings of the last weeks is that, depending on the event, the implementation of protective concepts is more demanding and therefore the spread of the coronavirus is favored,” said Health Director Michèle Blöchliger in the message. Therefore, an “adequate reduction in the number of participants” is warranted to contain the pandemic. In the current situation, social contacts should be kept to a minimum anyway.
Another cantonal regulation affects schools: the governing council expands the requirement for protective masks in class. This is done in cooperation with the schools and after consulting the cantonal doctor. The mask requirement now applies not only to secondary level II, but also to all kindergarten teachers and students in the guidance school (secondary level I). Masks should be worn where the minimum distance cannot be maintained. In the orientation school, the mask should also be used in physical education, if the distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained. Also, sports lessons should be held outdoors if possible.
Contact tracing should be eliminated
With these measures, the governing council hopes not only to flatten the curve for newly infected people, but also to ease the burden of contact tracing. “Even if the youngest are not the drivers of the coronavirus, we always have isolated cases of students and teachers who tested positive. With the requirement of the extended mask, we are convinced that we are contributing to the containment of Covid-19 and therefore also relieving the contact tracing team, “says education director Res Schmid. Currently, ten people are working on contact tracing.
As a further measure, the governing council decided that all erotic and sexual businesses in Nidwalden will be banned from Wednesday until further notice. The cantonal regulation Covid-19 is initially valid for an unlimited period. The governing council will periodically review the need for additional measures.
