Swiss hospitals must continue to improve. So that every crown patient receives the care they need. As the number of infected people continues to rise, the BAG reported 9,207 new infections on Friday. 279 people had to be hospitalized in the last 24 hours. Will measures be able to stop this worrying negative trend so that the health system does not collapse? It will be a race against time! This is also reflected in the latest figures for occupied intensive care beds, released by the federal government coordinated medical service (KSD).
While there were 200 intensive care patients due to Corona on Tuesday, there were already 261 on Friday. In total, the number of available intensive care beds increased from 1,078 to 1,095. Of these, 732 beds are occupied. Means: There are still 363 places for seriously ill patients.
Dramatic situation in the canton of Solothurn
Things are looking particularly bad in Canton Solothurn at the moment. In reality, there are only 15 intensive care beds available. But there are currently 17 patients who are in intensive care. Two of them by Corona. Overpopulation! The hospital is on edge. The SP government councilor, Susanne Schaffner (58), also knows this. “The situation in the canton of Solothurn is serious,” he said Thursday.
The number of hospital admissions is increasing significantly. That is why hospitals are moving from normal operation to the first level of escalation. Instead of 14, there will be 25 intensive care places with fans in the future. The expansion should take place within five days. Up to 50 beds can be expanded.
The canton of Schwyz is equally precarious (11 intensive care beds / 3 crown patients). Currently only one free intensive care bed remains.
Cantons Friborg (24 intensive care beds / 16 crown patients), Appenzell Ausserrhoden (6 intensive care beds / 2 crown patients), Nidwalden (6 intensive care beds / 2 crown patients), Jura (8 intensive care beds / 6 crown patients) and Schaffhausen (8 intensive care beds / 3 crown patients) are fighting. There are only two beds available here.
The next figures will be published next Tuesday
In Switzerland, hospitals can be upgraded to a maximum of 1,400 intensive care beds. And they do too, as KSD’s Andreas Stettbacher (58) confirmed to VIEW this week. Little by little. Be prepared for the worst. The Federal Council has tightened the measures so that it does not go so far.
Tuesday of next week will show whether the number of scarce intensive care beds will continue to rise. Then the KSD publishes an update. (hmh)
